In the four legislative districts that comprise the Rapid City metro area, the Democrats currently have a full slate of candidates, twelve people seeking twelve positions. It has been many years since the Democrats accomplished that by the filing deadline.
The following people have filed (and been qualified by the Secretary of State) to run for the legislature in the Rapid City area:
District #32: Ayla Rodriguez for State Senator, Susan Kelts and Angel Staley for State Representative
District #33: Ryan Ryder for State Senator, Lilias Jarding and Ian Keegan for State Representative
District #34: Zach Van Wyk for State Senator, George Nelson and Brian Davis for State Representative
District #35: Barry Muxen for State Senator, Michael Hanson and Bo Sistak for State Representative
In addition, Keryn Rowland has qualified to run on the Democratic ticket for County Commissioner in District #1, which includes areas of Pennington County west of Rapid City and is currently represented by George Ferebee.
Parties have until early August to make any final changes to their candidate lists. If some of these candidates filed to hold a spot and intend to be replaced by someone else, it must be accomplished by then. In addition, it is possible that individuals will file for some state and local offices as Independents.
